Our lawyers spend many hours in court, so we appreciate why you might not want to: court can be a frightening, intimidating, and unsettling time in your life. Whether you must go to court depends on the type of legal matter involved and the facts and circumstances of each case. We will tell you if you must go to court, as well as if you should even when not required to do so, recognizing the desire you may have to avoid going to court at all or keeping court time to a minimum. If you must go to court, you need legal representatives such as us with plenty of in-court experience.

The Law Office Of Steven W. Perbix charges fair, reasonable fees, including flat fees or realistic hourly rates with realistic retainers in DUI & Traffic defense, Criminal Defense, Estates & Wills, Divorce & Family Law, and Civil Litigation, all of which we will discuss with you during the free consultation we offer. Payment plans may also be available, but we cannot handle these types of cases on a contingency fee basis; however, see the discussion below about work injury and personal injury cases we can and do handle on a contingency fee arrangement.

Over the past 22 years, Steven W. Perbix has won or otherwise collected millions of dollars in settlements and awards in work injury and personal injury claims throughout all of central Illinois, all on a contingency fee basis, meaning in the event of no recovery, then no fees! Although no law firm can guarantee what a contingency fee case is worth at the outset, the better The Law Office Of Steven W. Perbix does in your injury case for you, the better it does for itself, meaning there is plenty of incentive for us to get the best settlement or award we can for you. Each claim must be evaluated on its own merits and the law, we cannot guarantee what your claim is worth if anything, and we have lost claims quite frankly, as any law firm will in a contested, hostile injury claim environment such as the one we all face. But many injury victims of Macon County and central Illinois have been able to depend on Steven W. Perbix to honestly assess their claims since 1989, and to work hard to maximize the recovery to them.

Steven W. Perbix’s Prior Awards & Settlements Since 1997

$2,800,000.00 motor vehicle crash, Macon County settlement 2001
$1,000,000.00 medical malpractice wrongful death claim, Macon County settlement 1997
$385,000.00 motor vehicle collision, Macon County settlement 2004
$332,620.00 worker’s compensation injury, Macon County settlement 2010
$239,461.66 worker’s compensation injury, Champaign County award 2005
$182,500.00 worker’s compensation settlement Macon County 2012
$150,000.00 premises liability fall injury, Macon County settlement 2010
$143,610.00 motor vehicle accident/dram shop, Macon County settlement 2004-2005
$140,000.00 motor vehicle crash, Sangamon County settlement 2008
$130,000.00 trip and fall injury, Macon County settlement 2008
$130,000.00 motor vehicle personal injury accident, Macon County settlement 2011
$111,000.00 motor vehicle collision, Christian County settlement 2007
$103,053.90 worker’s compensation injury, Peoria County settlement 2010
$100,000.00 motor vehicle personal injury crash, Macon County settlement 2010
$100,000.00 motor vehicle personal injury collision, Macon County settlement 2009
$100,000.00 automobile/bicycle injury, Macon County settlement 2004
$100,000.00 workers compensation injury claim, Macon County settlement 2001
Permanent Total Disability worker’s compensation injury, Sangamon County award 2009

Past results do not guarantee results in the future. Each case depends on its facts, the law, rulings by a court or other authority, the law firms involved, and who decides the matter if the claim proceeds to trial. The above-mentioned listed results are just a few of many settlements and awards secured by Steven W. Perbix on behalf of his clients since 1997 only and not prior to that year.

by Richard D. Hannigan

August 2011

Make no mistake, this is not the workers’ comp act you knew the law you knew as of September 1, 2011. This article highlights key changes.

Sometime in the 1950s, someone asked Chairman Mao Tse-Tung what were the consequences of the French Revolution. His response was that “it was far too early to tell.”

The same can be said for the sweeping changes to the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Act signed into law a few weeks ago. It will be up to lawyers, IWCC arbitrators and commissioners, circuit court judges, appellate court justices and, inevitably, the Illinois Supreme Court to give shape to the new workers’ compensation landscape.
